After a good supper and a sangria at a boulangerie we found a good campsite and with only 25 km to Seraing we leave around 08h00 and get to the start at Seraing around 09h30. This means I get a great spot on the start line.
The start is only at midday but a lot happens before that with the sponsor caravan handing out all sorts of goodies.
Lots of dignitaries come to the start line amongst them Eddy ” La Cannibal” Mercx and the king of Belgium surrounded by his bodyguards.
Not too long and the stage is under way and the I hear a shout from across the road ” hello South Africa”. To my surprise it is Rafa Chyla, his Dad and his son Lukas. The last time I had seen them the boy was 18 months old and now he is ten.
We chatted for a long time and they insisted on giving us sandwiches and fruit before they left. They drove on to watch more of the stage at around 80 km into the stage.
We then made tea and had a late lunch before heading for Liege.
We now head south for the Pyrenees and will more than likely now use the train to help Suz recover as the chain blade had cut her quite badly. No stitches needed but one mark is quite deep.
France her we come ……. hope you are ready!!!!
