It’s Sunday morning so I take it easy and enjoy some more of the Villarreal festival atmosphere. No I don’t have a hangover and feel surprisingly good.
This morning is market day on the town square. I was up very early and was enjoying my breakfast in front of the tourism office and the stall holders started arriving. The array of different vehicles interested me and I took some pics of the older ones not seen in SA.
I left Villarreal at 9am and head for Monsempron Libos 56 km away to meet the iron horse. This proves to be a challenge with several connections and some of the stations not set up for bicycles. We end up carrying bikes down stairs and up the other side to get to the departure platform. This reminds me how heavy our bikes are.
We reach Pau at 7pm with the help of the SNCF and have enough time to explore as well as stock up on food for the mountain top finish at La Pierre St Martin.
This is the beautiful castle built by Henry IV of Navarre built and Pau owes its origin to this castle.
Mission accomplished – well sort of because now the real mountains start!!!
